Hi Folks...Ive noticed that its harder now to find decent housing these days...and of course ideally Id like to find roomates who share a similar lifestyle...aka vegetarian...so I thought Id post here!
If you or someone you know whos vegetarian is renting a room for 700 give or take a few dollars....let me know! Email at the bottom...

I'm a former Bay Area resident who will be returning to the city at the end of September, and am looking for a room preferably for October 1st.
I'm 25, gay, working fulltime for Brookstone (Im transffering to the Stonestown Galleria location) Also a massage therapist, and occasionally trade massages with other professionals, and give massage to friends, and the occasioanal personal client for supplemental income. Ive done this with the past 3 roomates and had no issues.
Im quiet, and respectful of roomates boundaries and privacy. Im not a big partier as I dont drink or smoke, but I do occasioanlly like to host a dinner party and have a few friends over, of course once again respecting the roomates and getting the ok, for such gatherings. I'm into natural healing, and am a vegan (but not a veganazi!) I appreciate a laid back home with roomates who are respectful as I am...Not into crazy overly obsessive rules some people have on here....personally i dont care what gender, race, age, orientation, fetish type or how late you sleep or if you cook alot or shower at midnite while dressed as a baby raccoon in diapers, as long as it has no directly negative effect on me. ....and I like to have the occasional overnight guest over (tho I dont have any serial live in guests or hookup every night) I dont care if you do the same...
I appreciate a good sense of humor...Ive been known to cause a laugh or 2 with my perverted euphemisms....in fact one of my favorite old time actresses is Mae West. I havent actually seen any of her movies but from the clips, Im already in love! I dont mind pets that are cleaned up after and reasonably quiet. I may even walk your dog if you have one, from time to time...just for the enjoyment of it. Im sure theres much more I could write here...but Ill save that for our future conversations. Feel free to ask me questions...and perhaps we'll exchange numbers and chat some more!
I do have roomate references as well, and proof of income.
Thanks!
Im looking forward to moving back!

veganreikiangel@gmail.com is the quickest way to contact me!

It features interviews with doctors, experts, and raw foodists including Gabriel Cousens, David Wolfe, and Woody Harrelson.

I am new to raw foods and very interested in hearing from others who are raw foodists and people who are trying to change their lives for the better. Many people in my family have diabetes and I have changed my diet and gone raw to prevent myself from also getting diabetes.

The trailer on Youtube at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSuqCMld00w

There is also a new two-disc DVD set that is available for order called RAW FOR LIFE, which is a encyclopedia of Raw Food, perfect for beginners like me and Raw Food enthusiasts. I have found it to be very helpful, as I have been transitioning to raw foods. It’s about how to live raw, the Raw Food philosophy, why to eat a raw food diet, important medical facts and nutritional information. It’s a very practical guide to becoming raw and staying raw.
The Fire Family Gathering council is putting on a sacred fire circle event in Boulder Creek from Aug. 9th-13th. We have a head cook, but we are looking for someone to hold the vegitarian/vegan side.
Of the 200 hundred attendees, around 70 will most likely be veggie/vegan. I can pull up exact numbers from last years gathering. We have a budget, and the position gets entrance to the event and some pay. The staff is held with a lot of well organized volunteer help as well. Please contact me if you or anyone you know is interested.

One Word: LOVE! How should we create and maintain that LOVE? With PEACE! I created this profile with the intentions of facilitating peaceful change in this world. Many people and organizations have great intentions, and with their LOVE they try to create PEACE, but in attempting to do so, they miss their OWN point: That in order to create PEACE, you have to be PEACEFUL! People protest human and animal abuses, screaming WE WANT PEACE, yet they are unable to give it to themselves... What is wrong with this? You CANT create PEACE with VIOLENCE! So how can you help acheive peace, and help stop a war on the other side of the world through acts of hostility? Through screaming and sending out angry, hostile vibrations? You CANT! You NEED to become that PEACE! Ghandi had it right when he said *Be The Change You Wish To See!* This is not to say, that there is never a time to be angry, or express that, because it is important to communicate and express those feelings, BUT the important thing is learning to TRANSFORM that ANGER into CREATIVITY~! Instead of joining and angry screaming crowd, how about sitting down in protest, meditating, and making a statement with silence. (with information available to read) Or going on a hunger-strike (its good for getting media attention and for most people its GREAT for their body and immune system to have a rest, and release energy, usually used to digest. How about doing performance art? Write a song! Write a book! Create a whole show! Get active in your local community. Hold potlucks at your house with wonderful ORGANIC veggie food! Learn about proper nutrition to keep yourself healthy and strong! Meditate! Its SO important to give your mind a rest! For those of us who are passionate about different causes out there, we need a break from letting our mind race, and our heart worry. Sink into silence, and free your thoughts, and fade into Divine Consciousness. (whether that means communication with a deity, or just the simple relaxation of inner silence!) It all comes back to creating PEACE! Peace within, Peace Without! It all starts with you! I am an ardent animal lover, so that is why I chose to become a vegan. I first went vegetarian, because I was overweight, and depressed, and then I learned about how healthy I could be, and how much I could change the world being vegan, so I followed that path.

Subject: Stop SB 1056 - Protect Local Governments' Authority Over Seeds!

Dear xxxxxx,

Stop SB 1056 - Protect Local Governments' Authority Over Seeds!

Urgent action needed on the California seed pre-emption bill -
We know we asked you to contact your legislators before, but the
bill is still in play, and we need your help again!
http://ga3.org/ct/Ad2uiLK1dmm-/

Right now, the California Legislature is considering Senate Bill
1056, the bill that would pre-empt local government restrictions
over genetically engineered seeds and nursery stock. If this
bill passes into law, it will override future restrictions on
genetically engineered crops and seeds, as well as all other
regulations of seeds, at the local level.

According to a recent media report, the bill?s sponsor, Senator
Florez, is considering amending the bill to make it a two-year
moratorium on local seed regulations, likely to make the bill
easier to pass. Whether temporary or permanent, SB 1056 is an
anti-democratic end-run that addresses none of the legitimate
concerns that have been raised by citizens and local
governments. Until meaningful regulation is in place at the
state level that protects farmers, the environment and public
health from the risks of genetically engineered crops, we must
retain the right to make decisions at the local level.

We have very little time left to stop this bill, SB 1056 may be
heard by the Assembly any day now, and will then go to the
Senate. Contact your state legislators and Senate President pro
Tem Perata NOW and tell them to stop SB 1056!
TAKE ACTION NOW AT: http://ga3.org/ct/Ad2uiLK1dmm-/
TO: All Animal Lovers in Oakland

In early 2004, a whistle-blower revealed allegations of serious animal abuse and neglect at the Oakland Animal Shelter.1 The welfare of animals and customer service have suffered greatly overall while under the control of the Police Department. Last week a former supervisor at the shelter who was disciplined for alleged animal abuse has now been re-hired as an Animal Control Officer1 where he will have frequent, direct contact with animals.
If you are an Oakland Resident, please sign a petition calling for his removal:
http://www.petitiononline.com/OAW/petition.html

The crisis continued this week: The newly hired and highly touted director resigned after only three months on the job. It is clear that Oakland Animal Services needs permanent, structural change. Please click below to sign our petition asking that the City of Oakland follow in the footsteps of other jurisdictions (San Francisco, Berkeley, Marin) to REMOVE OAKLAND ANIMAL SERVICES FROM THE OAKLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT and ESTABLISH IT AS A SEPARATE DEPARTMENT and ESTABLISH AN ANIMAL WELFARE COMMISSION to monitor the conditions at Animal Services and provide transparency so the community may regain their trust in this valuable public resource.

Oakland residents: Please don’t let shelter animals continue to suffer-- sign this petition:
http://www.petitiononline.com/OAW/petition.html

Oakland Animal Services has had A HISTORY OF PROBLEMS WHILE UNDER POLICE CONTROL. Non-police management structures are used in both San Francisco and Berkeley – both of which adhere to a more progressive approach to animal services, which is reflected in their lower euthanasia rates and better customer service. In 2004, Oakland euthanized over 2,000 animals – over 50% of incoming animals. San Francisco and Berkeley had much lower euthanasia rates, with approximately 25% and 10% of all animals being euthanized (respectively). Let the police focus on fighting crime and leave animal welfare to civilians.

Please help improve the situation for Oakland's animals. They have suffered too long. Sign our petition and forward it to other Oakland residents:
http://www.petitiononline.com/OAW/petition.html

Many thanks,
The Oakland Animal Welfare Group (OAWG)

The Oakland Animal Welfare Group (OAWG) is a grassroots organization consisting of local animal rescue groups, shelter volunteers, animal welfare groups, and concerned Oakland residents that formed a collaborative group to address complaints of misconduct, abuse and neglect at Oakland Animal Services.

Since I made the choice to go fully vegetarian 6 years ago, I am amazed at the aggression I receive from meat-eaters from time to time, and sometime these are people I would consider friends too.

Yesterday, I went out to eat out with friends. I don't usually talk about my vegetarian choices, but it always end-up being the subject of one or two jokes on their side. And somehow, we went on to talking about free range against eggs coming from battery cage. I was saying how cruel this treatment was for the chickens: cut the beak, stuck in overpopulated cages, stacking one on top of each other, never seing the daylight,...Then my "friend", meat-eater, went on saying that he could not understand how people could judge that inhumane when they were okay with neutering animals. I then talked about population control and about all these pets ending up in these refuges because in too big numbers to be taking care of.
For him, in both cases, we are forcing our decision on animals. I understand what he is saying about cat and dogs not originally being made for being our pet, however in today's world, neutering a pet, if you can't manage the consequence if you don't, is a responsible thing I think.
How could someone compare the horrible faith of battery chickens with the faith of my cat and rabbits who are living freely in my appartment and my garden and who get so much love and attention from me? This all boils down to quality of life and respect for the animals.

And it's not really that he cared about the faith of the pets, just that he saw me as giving morale lesson, when I was just explaining to another friend what free range meant, and he did not want to hear it.
So in this case like other, rather than feeling moved by this and reviewing their choice when buying foods, they feel aggressed by us as vegetarian, and aggress us back.
I am really not an activist but a vegetarian very happy with the choice I made, I am just amazed what I get in my face sometimes as a consequence.
I am also really amazed that people like my friends, who are educated people, will continue to buy their factory-made meat and eggs, when there is so much alternative options today for them... When will factory-farms end then?

At each time something like that happens, it really hurts me and I feel like hanging out with more "like-minded" people, but isn't it how we just build an intolerant society?

Sorry for the ranting, just need to get it out of my system I guess...
VANGUARD: INVESTED IN ANIMAL SLAUGHTERHOUSES

Vanguard manages more than US $700 billion and has
more than 5000 institutional investors. It is invested
in many slaughterhouse and war operations.
1 It is the major investor in the world's most corrupt bank,
Citibank whose chairman helped jailed Bernie Ebbers buy Canada's
biggest cattle ranch with stolen MCI customer money.
2 It is a major investor in McDonald's (and since NPR has 200 million
in McDonald's stock,
... the 'public radio' network promoted Vanguard)
28,385,755 2.24 $883,932,410 31-Mar-05
3. It is a major investor in Yums, owner of the boycotted KFC
www.kfccruelty.com and of Taco Bell which finally settled with
unions.
4. It is a major investor in Lonestar Steak House which causes
cancer, heart disease, slaughterhouse agony, and deforestation.
(THE) 409,292 1.99 $11,832,631 31-Mar-05
5. It is a major investor in Triarc (Arby's beef)
6. Wendy's Vanguard is a major investor in the world's
3rd largest cowslaughter fast food chain
7. Vanguard is invested in SBC, a pricegouging conglomerate illegal
in Teddy Roosevelt's days
8. It is invested in Dominion, a gas company which has
been pricegouging the poor with doubling of charges.
9. It is a major investor in ConAgra.. 'butterball' turkeys
and other slaughterhouse items.
10. It is invested in Goldman Sachs, neocon warmonger.

John Bogle its CEO has been touted on NPR
because both are heavily invested in McDonald's. NPR was
allegedly left 200 million in McDonald's stock by Joan Kroc.
It is indeed humorous that Bogle would write a book on
business ethics.

------
Those who are not vegetarian or vegan might consider that
the incubation period of Mad Cow, Mad Deer, Mad Pig, Mad Chicken,
Mad Fish etc is 50 years according to Dr David Heymann of the CDC
speaking on the CBC... Heymann is one of the few truthtellers
at the pharmaceutically dominated CDC. Any investment in animal
flesh is unwise.

Republicans always find it hard
to get out the numbers... in some
cities they hand out tickets to Democrats
when their high paid speakers paid for
with public money come
to town.. in order to swell the audience

Yesterday, as unelected Bush nominee
Sam Alito was questioned by senators,
there were Rent A Republican mobs
outside. It was a hastily done affair..
virtually
everyone with the same sign.

Neocon CNN owned illegally by Neocon
Below is a list of U.S. medical schools that still use live animals to teach basic concepts in human physiology, pharmacology, and/or surgery. Two-thirds of all U.S. medical schools, including Harvard, Stanford and Yale, have eliminated these old-fashioned laboratories in favor of modern, cost-effective and humane alternatives. Please write to your local universities and alma mater to express your concerns about these crude exercises.

Please note that this list includes only schools that use live animal laboratories to train medical students, and does not refer to basic research that may be conducted at medical schools and universities.
Here are some of the more common Organic Certifiers in the US / CA:
CCOF is a non-profit membership based organic certification and trade association, dedicated to promoting and supporting organic food and agriculture.
Notes & References
1) OTA (the Organic Trade Association) is a membership-based business association representing the organic industry in Canada, the U. S., and Mexico. It works to promote organic products in the marketplace and to protect the integrity of organic standards.

http://www.ota.com/

2) OMRI (the Organic Materials Review Institute) evaluates materials for use in most aspects of organic production, handling, and processing. Their published guides of approved inputs are invaluable for informing clients as to what they may and may not use in their operations.

http://www.omri.org/

3) Like Organic, Free Farmed is another example of eco-labeling. For more information on the Free Farmed label, visit the Farm Animal Services Website.

4) IFOAM is the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements. Their accreditation program for organic certification agencies is operated by the International Organic Accreditation Service (IOAS).

5) For more information on the organic farm plan requirement, please request a copy of the ATTRA publication Creating An Organic Production and Handling System Plan. This publication includes template forms in common use by certification agencies.

6) The kinds of additional information a certification agent might seek are various. In some instances the agent may require that additional testing of soils, water, compost, crops, feeds, or other items be done. This is typically required if there is reason to expect excessive contamination with prohibited substances. Requests for additional testing might be made at any point in the application process or later.

7) Organic inspectors may be employees of the certifier, but many are independent contractors. Many inspectors are members of, and receive training from, the Independent Organic Inspectors Association (IOIA).

http://www.ioia.net/

8) According to John Foster (Quality Assurance International), farmers with minor noncompliances might be granted certification with the understanding that these violations be corrected within a specified time period. Where major noncompliances occur, certification is likely to be withheld until the applicant has made and documented the required changes.
Further Resources
The National Organic Program Website has been cited several times throughout this publication. It is important to note the wealth of additional information that can be found there, including background information on the legislation, an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page, and guidance from the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB)-an advisory body to the NOP that assists in interpreting the Regulations and makes recommendations on materials and practices that can and cannot be used in organic production.

The Organic Trade Association Web site features a summary legislation page, which gives an excellent overview of the history of federal regulation plus many details contained in the Regulations.

The National Campaign for Sustainable Agriculture closely monitors federal legislation regarding organic farming.

one thing i'd like to find out from people is where they find the best food... restaurants & grocery stores / produce stands especially.

What I've found:

- Organic produce, etc.

Rainbow rocks, of course. (13th and folsom). but somehow i always end up leaving spending about 4x what i expected to spend (although that's mostly because i can never leave without picking up about 3x as much as i went in for). individual things are generally priced quite reasonably, especially compared to "regular" supermarkets. but i still don't know completely how i never leave without spending at least $150.

Whole Foods is pricey and kinda evil as a corporation, but they have good food (franklin & california, there's also a newer SOMA one but don't know streets). i generally don't spend as much at whole foods, but that's probably because i *know* it's expensive, and i'm much more careful about what i throw in the cart.

i've heard the ferry building has some great organic shops, but i'd be interested in more info & when's best to go (embarcadero & market).

- Not necessarily organic produce, etc.

Farmer's Market, between 7th and 8th on Market, Sunday mornings. Produce, flowers, honey, ... great prices.

Produce stand at 4th and Geary... open i believe every day... i've pretty much always been able to walk in with $10 and walk out with plenty of stuff for several meals

Clement street Asian markets (1 block from Geary, starting around 2nd ave & going up to 10th ave or so)... really cheap food, but you need to poke around the different stores and get a feel for which store has what. Probably none of it is organic, though. when i had almost no money, i was still able to eat pretty well shopping there. bananas cost almost nothing ($.20 - $.29/pound), for you smoothie lovers.

- Restaurants

I know i've been to some really good ones, although most aren't coming to mind right now... but

Golden Era (O'Farrell & Jones) - wonderful food, Asian based... lots of fake meat products that actually taste great... almost all are gluten-based though, so be careful if you're sensitive. one of the better veggie restaurants in my opinion in the area. (A bit pricey though... I usually spend at least $20-$25/person; main courses are generally ~$9-$12). not sure about organic status of food.
*** 1/2

Pak Wan (around 16th & valencia, a few others around but food there's better IMHO) -- Pakistani/Indian. Not veg-only, but has really good veggie food. Unknown how careful they are about sharing implements used to make meat foods & veg foods (i'm not hardcore about that). Really super yummy... (pretty average price; $6-7 for main course, I usually spend ~$15-$20/meal). not organic, i'm quite sure.
***

Ananda Fuara (market & 9th) -- Only been there once; remember it was really good, but don't have a huge lasting impression. Hari Krishna-inspired menu. i *think* it's all organic. (don't remember price, but think it was pretty average... expect to spend ~$10-15 IIRC)

Urban Forage (Haight & Fillmore, also a valencia restaurant) -- Raw food... and YUM really really good, and less expensive than i could ever have expected. (expect quick meal for $6-7, full for well under $15, with smoothie & appetizers). organic.

Iwas looking over a menu in a restaurant the other day when I saw a section for vegetarians; I thought to myself "boy, I sure am glad that I'm not a meat-hating fascist" and I skipped on to the steak section (because I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $15 for an alfalfa sandwich, slice of cucumber and a scoop of cold cottage cheese), but before I turned the page something caught my eye. The heading of the vegetarian section was titled "Guiltless Grill," not because there were menu items with fewer calories and cholesterol (since there were "healthy" chicken dishes discriminated against in this section), but because none of the items used animal products. Think about that phrase for a second. What exactly does "guiltless grill" imply? So I'm supposed to feel guilty now if I eat meat? Screw you.

What pisses me off so much about this phrase is the sheer narrow-mindedness of these stuck up vegetarian assholes. You think you're saving the world by eating a tofu-burger and sticking to a diet of grains and berries? Well here's something that not many vegetarians know (or care to acknowledge): every year millions of animals are killed by wheat and soy bean combines during harvesting season (source). Oh yeah, go on and on for hours about how all of us meat eaters are going to hell for having a steak, but conveniently ignore the fact that each year millions of mice, rabbits, snakes, skunks, possums, squirrels, gophers and rats are ruthlessly murdered as a direct result of YOUR dieting habits. What's that? I'm sorry, I don't hear any more elitist banter from you pompous cocks. Could it be because your shit has been RUINED?

Meat is Murder?
Wheat is Murder

That's right: the gloves have come off. The vegetarian response to this embarrassing fact is "well, at least we're not killing intentionally." So let me get this straight; not only are animals ruthlessly being murdered as a direct result of your diet, but you're not even using the meat of the animals YOU kill? At least we're eating the animals we kill (and although we also contribute to the slaughter of animals during grain harvesting, keep in mind that we're not the ones with a moral qualm about it), not just leaving them to rot in a field somewhere. That makes you just as morally repugnant than any meat-eater any day. Not only that, but you're killing free-roaming animals, not animals that were raised for feed. Their bodies get mangled in the combine's machinery, bones crushed, and you have the audacity to point fingers at the meat industry for humanely punching a spike through a cow's neck? If you think that tofu burgers come at no cost to animals or the environment, guess again.

To even suggest that your meal is some how "guiltless" is absurd. The defense "at least we're not killing intentionally" is bullshit anyway. How is it not intentional if you KNOW that millions of animals die every year in combines during harvest? You expect me to believe that you somehow unintentionally pay money to buy products that support farmers that use combines to harvest their fields? Even if it was somehow unintentional, so what? That suddenly makes you innocent? I guess we should let drunk drivers off the hook too since they don't kill intentionally either, right? There's no way out of this one. The only option left for you dipshits is to buy some land, plant and pick your own crops. Impractical? Yeah, well, so is your stupid diet.

Even if combines aren't used to harvest your food, you think that buying fruits and vegetables (organic or otherwise) is any better? How do you think they get rid of bugs that eat crops in large fields? You think they just put up signs and ask parasites to politely go somewhere else? Actually, I wouldn't put that suggestion past you hippies. One of the methods they use to get rid of pests is to introduce a high level of predators for each particular prey, which wreaks all sorts of havoc on the natural balance of predator/prey populations--causing who knows what kind of damage to the environment. Oops, did I just expose you moral-elitists for being frauds? Damndest thing.

A number of people have pointed out that the amount of grain grown to feed animals for slaughter every year is greater than the amount of grain grown for humans. So I guess the amount of grain grown for human consumption suddenly becomes negligible and we can conveniently ignore the fact that animals are still ruthlessly murdered either way because of your diet, right? Not to mention that the majority of grain grown for livestock is tough as rocks, coarse, and so low-grade that it's only fit for animal consumption in the first place. Spare me the "you could feed 500 people with the grain used to feed one cow" line of shit; it's not the same grain. Then there are the people who jump on the bandwagon with "you could plant billions of potatoes on the land used for cows"--good point, except for the fact that not every plot of land is equally fertile; you think farmers always have a choice on what they do with their land? Also, many vegetarians don't know (or care to acknowledge) that in many parts of the United States they have "control hunts" in which hunting permits are passed out whenever there is a pest problem (the pest here is deer, elk and antelope) that threatens wheat, soy, vegetable and other crops; this happens several times per year. Then some of you throw out claims that "we are trying to limit the suffering." How about you limit MY suffering and shut the hell up about your stupid diet for a change; nobody cares. Even if the number of animals that die in combine deaths every year isn't in the millions, even if it's just one, are you suggesting that the life of one baby rabbit isn't worth saving? Are you placing a value on life? Enjoy your tofu, murderers.
im sure the"thought Police"will erase this(moderator)just like Bush would if he didnt like something

The kitchens of Shao Lin monasteries have been shrouded in a cloud of nobody-cares for centuries. Questions abound in the diets of ancient American kung fu warriors. When it comes to martial arts meals, most chefs are as lost as Jet Li in that one movie. This week, you can come to Crash Course and get all the info you need to eat right before a fight.

Crash Course is a hilarious, audience-centric, live cooking show. You get to watch, laugh, taste, and clap as Scot Nery stymies you with weird comedy, cooking, and juggling. It’s completely different every week and completely original. Come have fun this weekend.
Speaking of weddings, we couldn’t resist sharing the top-notch contents of the 2005 wedding boxes. Generously provided by VeganEssentials.com, one of the most popular online veg superstores, each of our eight couples featured in the January/February wedding issue were sent a box. Inside were a BeansWax soy candle, chocolate truffles from Givere, and massage oil from Nature’s Acres. Couples also received a one-year subscription to VegNews along with our signature oversized tote bag. No wonder we had so many applicants! You may now kiss the bride.

http://r.vresp.com/?VegNewsMagazine/1e775942cf/279757/8ef5c3ece6/beb6ace
The weather is cold, and that calls for warm, nourishing soup! While miso soup is the fastest to make, it doesn't have that wonderful aroma and cozy feeling of a hearty bowl of soup. Still, when time is tight, miso soup is as tasty and healthful as any soup there is. For two servings, in a small pot, boil two cups of water. When it's boiling, turn off the heat and add one to two tablespoons of miso paste, depending on how strong you want the flavor to be (miso is sold in the refrigerated section of natural food stores and most supermarkets.). Stir thoroughly to dissolve. Optional additions include chopped green onion (scallions) or sliced red or yellow onion, small cubes of fresh tofu, and any other vegetables you like. These additions should be added to the boiling water before the miso is added.

Recently, I discovered another fairly quick soup that's also delicious: Garbanzo Bean & Tomato Soup from Jennifer Raymond's The Peaceful Palate. Using canned organic tomatoes makes the preparation even faster. Two cups of chopped cabbage is less than one quarter of a large head, so any leftover chunks of cabbage from
another meal are perfect for this. Green cabbage makes a prettier soup, but red cabbage works just as well. You can even substitute dried parsley for the fresh. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Garbanzo Bean & Tomato Soup

2 teaspoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 cup chopped tomatoes, fresh or canned
2 cups cabbage, chopped
1 potato, diced (peel first if using a russet potato)
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
4 cups water or vegetable stock
One 15-ounce can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
1 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 to 1 teaspoon salt

Heat the oil in a large pot and sauté the onion until soft, about 3-5 minutes. Add the garlic, tomatoes, cabbage, potato, parsley, water or stock, garbanzo beans, paprika, and black pepper. Simmer until the potato and cabbage are tender, about 15 minutes. Ladle approximately 3 cups of the soup into a blender. Starting on a low speed, blend until smooth, making sure to hold the lid on tightly. Return the blended soup to the pot and stir to mix, adding salt to taste.
* Hot New Item: Vegan Marshmallow Fluff *

http://r.vresp.com/?VegNewsMagazine/648db9b029/279757/8ef5c3ece6/beb6ace
In late 2004, the VegNews staff started to hear rumors of a vegan Marshmallow Cream coming to the market. Imagine our delight when discovering the sweet, fluffy Ricemellow Crème at a trade show, especially as it was oozing out of warm s’mores. We’ve since tried it in rice crispy treats, on hot chocolate and even in a Ricemellow and peanut butter sandwich. This will be your new favorite indulgence! The company also makes a delicious line of flavored Rice Syrups (the chocolate variety tastes wonderful with the Ricemellow Creme).
